Capitol Reef National Park • Torrey, Utah • September 9-11, 2014 • $900 [$500 deposit]
“The Undiscovered Country”
Capitol Reef is an extraordinary landscape of tilted planes and deep mysterious canyons. We will paint one day from Panorama Point near the entrance to the park, one day from an area within the park at the end of Scenic Drive and one day will be spent on Boulder Mountain. I will guide students in capturing the unique rock formations and atmospheric perspective that this terrain is known for. Evenings will allow for group dinners at various restaurants and group critique of the day’s work. Demonstrations and individual attention while painting will round out this three-day immersion. Four nights Lodging is included at the Howard Johnson’s between Torrey and the park entrance.
My workshops are designed for all levels with a focus on painting outdoors. Artists learn to quickly gather the necessary visual information needed to complete a painting in the field. Learning how to simplify a landscape and interpret color relationships is a primary focus but other fundamental concepts are also discussed including: how to compose and design a landscape, and the importance of values, shapes and edges.
